Vienna Christmas Markets After Christmas Day: What Is Still Open?
The Vienna markets scheduled to continue after 25 December 2026, including options through New Year and 6 January.
Updated for the 2026 season · Dates can change
Arriving in Vienna after Christmas does not mean you have missed every market, but the city’s Advent season changes quickly. Many traditional markets close on 23 December, and the selection becomes much smaller from 24 December onward.
For 2026, several major locations are scheduled to continue through 26 December or later. Treat the list below as a planning guide and recheck holiday opening hours before setting out.
Open through 26 December
Rathausplatz, Stephansplatz, Maria-Theresien-Platz and Schwarzenbergplatz are all scheduled through 26 December. These are your strongest options for a recognisable Christmas-market atmosphere immediately after Christmas Day. Holiday hours may differ from the normal weekly schedule.
Belvedere through New Year
The market at Belvedere Palace is scheduled through 31 December. The palace setting remains the main attraction, and it combines naturally with an art visit or a walk toward the centre. Check the reduced festive-period hours before travelling.

Schönbrunn and Prater through 6 January
Schönbrunn and the Winter Market at Riesenradplatz are scheduled to continue until 6 January 2027. They offer very different experiences: imperial architecture and crafts at Schönbrunn; rides, entertainment and the Ferris wheel at Prater. These are the safest late-season anchors for a trip around New Year.

What changes after Christmas?
Some markets transition toward New Year, stall line-ups may shrink, and special opening hours become more common. The city remains festive, but you should not expect the same breadth of choice as a mid-December visit. Plan one confirmed market, then add cafés, museums or seasonal city walks rather than building an entire day around uncertain stalls.
Good to know
The most reliable late-season pairing is one of the markets above plus a nearby indoor attraction. That gives you a good day even if weather or holiday hours change.
